Yad B'Yad
provides outreach, advocacy and program
support that assists individuals with developmental,
physical or emotional challenges, who are Jewish or
connected to Jewish agencies, achieve full participation,
membership and inclusion in Jewish and, as necessary,
other activities and organizations in Western New York.
The purpose of these efforts is to enrich the spiritual
and communal lives of the individuals with and without
disabilities, by expanding friendships, sharing mutual
talents and gifts and fostering appreciation of individual
differences.
Programs
- Friends
encourages friendships amongst young
adults, ages 18-30, with developmental disabilities
and their non-disabled peers. Friends meet twice a
month in structured and facilitated social gatherings,
community action events and other activities.
- Teen Pals
serves the social needs of teenagers
with developmental disabilities, ages 13-18. Teen
Pals is an inclusive social and recreational program
that, through facilitation of the program leader,
allows teenagers with disabilities to develop social
skills with same-aged peers.
Services
Yad B'Yad
services for individuals with developmental,
physical or emotional challenges include:
- Advice and advocacy
for children and adults with
disabilities, and their families
- Information and
referrals to help people with
disabilities and their families access all available
inclusive services and programs within the community
- Presentation of
seminars and workshops
- Facilitation of
inclusive recreational opportunities
at the Jewish Community Center for children with
disabilities including after-school programs and
summer camp
- Development of
opportunities for Jewish adults
with disabilities to participate in religious and
social activities in their religious community
- Information resource
center for families,
educators, Jewish agencies, and service providers
- Support group for
mothers and fathers of children
with disabilities
- Outreach, information
and a community calendar
through the Yad B'Yad Connection newsletter
Yad B'Yad is a
non-profit organization that is supported
by memberships, private donations, grants, and the
Buffalo Jewish community.
Services are
provided at no cost to the consumer. |
